Putin promised to facilitate citizenship adoption rules

Many of them want to be useful to their historical homeland

MOSCOW, July 9 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to restore facilitated rules of adopting Russian citizenship by former Soviet citizens and direct descendants who were born in the USSR and the Russian Empire.

“I deem it necessary to return to the question of facilitating citizenship obtaining procedures for former Soviet citizens and direct descendants who were born in the USSR and the Russian Empire,” Putin emphasized.

“We need to thoroughly reconsider the role of compatriots who permanently reside abroad. Many of them want to be useful to their historical homeland. They want to support it, but our embassies and other institutions operating abroad are underestimating this mood. They haven’t duly focused their efforts in this vital area,” the Russian president said.
