MOSCOW, July 9 (Itar-Tass) — More than 200 people have turned for emergency medical aid in the parts of Russia’s southern Krasnodar territory that have suffered from severe floods, a source at the disaster response staff of the Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass.
“The information available at 23:00 hours Sunday suggested that as many as twenty dead were still unidentified,” he said. “Of the 205 people who called up emergency medical aid, 28 were children.”
“The medics hospitalized 159 people, including sixteen children,” the source said.
In the meantime, the Krasnodar Center for Hydrometeorology issued a warning that it expected new spates of bad weather with torrential rains, hail, thunderstorm, and gusts of wind of up to 17 meters per second.
The situation might be extremely unfavorable in the Apsheron, Belorechensky, Kurganinsky, Ust-Lasbinsk, and a number of other districts, as well as in the towns of Armavir and Goryachiy Klyuch.
All the districts are located in the highlands and abound in small rivers, which may turn into powerful streams of water crushing everything in their way.
Russia’s Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense /EMERCOM/ warned of a possible flooding of lowlands and mudslides.
In addition, there is a risk of ground subsiding, especially in the Adler district close to the famous Sochi coastline.
