ST. PETERSBURG, July 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Police have detained about ten participants in an opposition action in Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg on Sunday.
According to an Itar-Tass correspondent, among those detained is an opposition leader from Moscow, Sergei Udaltsov, and Olga Kurnosova, a leader of the St. Petersburg opposition movement. They were detained in front of the Oktyabrsky concert hall where the opposition planned to hold a meeting ahead of an authorized rally in the Field of Mars in downtown St. Petersburg. The opposition planned to march from the Oktyabrsky concert hall to the Field of Mars but police detained opposition activists on charges of violations of the federal rally law.
