Torrential rains leave 66,000 people without electricity in Checnya

Repair teams from the Nurenergo electricity company are taking efforts to resume electricity supplies

GROZNY, July 8 (Itar-Tass) —— About 66,000 people were left without electricity supplies in Chechnya’s Grozny and Sahli districts because of torrential rains and stormy winds, a spokesman for the republican emergencies administration told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

Repair teams from the Nurenergo electricity company are taking efforts to resume electricity supplies.

“Socially important facilities have their own electricity generators and operate in a regular regime,” the spokesman said.

According to the Russian emergencies ministry, more rains with hailstorms and strong winds up to 20 meters per second are expected in Chechnya overnight to July 9. It is not ruled out that water levels in local rivers may rise above critical levels.
