Death toll from flood in Krasnodar Territory reaches 153

The biggest death toll is reported in the Krymsk district

MOSCOW, July 8 (Itar-Tass) —— The death toll from the disastrous flood in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Territory has reached 153, a spokesman for the Russian interior ministry’s headquarters in the area told Itar-Tass.

“As of 17:30 Moscow time, rescuers found 153 dead bodies,” the spokesman said. “As many as 26 of them are not identified.”

According to the spokesman, the biggest death toll is reported in the Krymsk district. “As many as 142 people died in the town of Krymsk and nearby settlements. Twenty three dead bodies have not yet been identified. A total of 152 people, including 16 children, are receiving medical treatment in the Krymsk central clinic,” the spokesman said.

Currently, water is subsiding in another town affected by the flood, in Gelendzhik. “Nine people were killed by the flood in Gelendzhik, a total of 85 people, including seven children, sought medical help. Seven people were hospitalized,” the spokesman noted.

“The situation in the affected areas is under control of police. No serious accidents or crimes were reported. Police are taking measure to ensure law and order in the flood affected areas,” the spokesman stressed and added that airports in the towns of Anapa and Gelendzhik were operating in a regular regime.

Meanwhile, the territorial administration of the Russian Investigations Committee opened a criminal case under part 3 of article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code (causing death through negligence to two or more persons.
