Fourteen people died and 29 were injured in a road accident in the Chernigov region

MOSCOW, July 8 (Itar-Tass) — A plane of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations with 14 injured pilgrims onboard left Ukraine for Moscow early on Sunday.

A Ministry source told Itar-Tass that an IL-76 aircraft had taken off from Nezhin airport near Kiev at 01:00 Moscow time. Thirteen doctors and psychologists of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations are accompanying the patients who will be taken to hospitals as soon as the plane lands in Moscow.

Fourteen people died and 29 were injured in a road accident in the Chernigov region on Saturday when a bus with Russian pilgrims overturned on the 119th kilometer of the Kiev-Chernigov highway. There were 45 people on the bus.

Earlier, Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said that five pilgrims were in serious condition, while another woman was said to be in a critical state.

At the same time, Vasily Kvashuk, the deputy head of the Ukrainian Ministry for Emergency Situations, said that not all the injured could be transported to Moscow. “Three people have been operated on and are in now in an intensive care ward. Doctors have forbidden their transportation. But their condition may change,” Kvashuk said.

The bus with Russian pilgrims was on its way to Pochayevskaya Lavra monastery. According to preliminary reports, the driver crossed into the oncoming lane.

“The Neoplan bus crossed two continuous lines into the oncoming lane and turned over,” the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations reports.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the Russian Health Ministry and the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations to help the injured and presented his condolences to the families of dead pilgrims.
