KRASNODAR, the Kuban region, July 8 (Itar-Tass) — Alexander Tkachev, the governor of the Krasnodar territory, has announced July 9 a day of mourning for the flood victims, the governor’s press service said on Saturday.
It can be fairly said that the Krasnodar territory has been hit by the most powerful and devastating flood in its history. Even the tragic 2002 was nothing compared to the floods that struck three regions in a matter of hours: Gelendzhik, Novorossiysk and Krymsk in particular.
“Despite the fact that the Interior Ministry and the Ministry for Emergency Situations have been giving issuing various reports on the death toll throughout the day, the last figure was 103 people. But that doesn’t change the main thing: it doesn’t relieve the shock and pain of the entire territory,” the governor went on to say.
“We decided to announce Monday, July 9, a day of mourning for the flood victims in the Krasnodar territory. All festivities and entertainments that were supposed to have taken place in connection with Family Day will be cancelled,”Tkachev said.
