MOSCOW, July 6 (Itar-Tass) — Vitaly Ignatenko, the director-general of the Itar-Tass news agency, said on Friday that a working group would be set up to coordinate preparation efforts for the next World Media Summit presumably to be hosted by Bahrain.
“We’ve decided to create this platform. Moreover, we are going to hold a council meeting in November to discuss a technical aspect with regards to Bahrain and work out a program,” the Itar-Tass director-general went on to say. He added that the idea to set up such a platform had come from Li Congjun, the president of the Xinhua news agency.
According to Ignatenko, the working group is supposed to operate in-between the summits.
“We are going to report to you about this work in a period between the summits,” Ignatenko said, adding that both Itar-Tass and the Bahrain side would deal with this matter.
The next World Media Summit will be held in Bahrain in 2014, Samira Rajab, the information minister of this Arab country, said at the summit’s closing ceremony in Moscow on Friday.
“I would like to thank the Itar-Tass leadership for an opportunity to participate in this forum which brought together the heads of media outlets from all over the world,” Samira Rajab said in her speech.
“I hope that Bahrain will become the next country to host the World Media Summit. It’s vitally important that it will take place in an Arab country. The Arab world needs media attention because it has become a scene for events that are crucial for the whole world,” she added.
Vitaly Ignatenko, the Itar-Tass director-general and the head of the Moscow summit’s organizing committee, welcomed the idea of holding the next summit in Bahrain in 2014. He said the final decision would be made before the year’s end.
“I think that it’s going to be positive. I also believe it’s going to be very useful to do that,” Ignatenko said.
The World Media Summit was organized in Moscow by the Itar-Tass news agency. The forum entitled “Global Media: Challenges of the 21st Century” brought together an unprecedented number of participants. More than 300 top managers represented 213 media outlets from 103 countries.
