Ukraine cuts import of Russia’s gas by 55%

KIEV, July 6 (Itar-Tass) — Ukraine has cut its import of natural gas from Russia by 55 percent in the first half of the year, as compared to the same period of 2011, to 16 billion cubic metres, the republic’s gas transportation company UkrTransGaz wrote in its report published on Friday.

In January-June 2012, the natural gas via Ukraine to the countries of West Europe amounted to 43 billion cubic metres, which was 23.81 percent smaller than in the first half of 2011, the company’s press service said.

In the mean time, gas transit to the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States remained at the level of about 1.6 billion cubic metres in January-June, the press service said.

Under the company’s reports, “almost 28 billion cubic metres of natural gas were delivered to Ukraine’s consumers, which was four percent smaller than in the same period of the preceding year.”
