GORNO-ALTAYSK, July 6 (Itar-Tass) — Wildfires sweeping Russia’s Yakutia have doubled in size over the past 24 hours, the republic’s forestry department told Itar-Tass on Friday.
A total of 22 fires ranging across the territory of 2,075 hectares were registered in Yakutia.
Over the past 24 hours ten wildfires on the territory of 298.5 hectares broke out, of them five fires ravaging 122 hectares were put out.
A group of 727 rescuers, 64 firefighting equipment, four An-2 planes, one An-3 plane, one Mi-2 helicopter and two Mi-8 helicopters are engaged in the operation.
From the beginning of the fire hazard season 215 forest fires have been reported.
