MOSCOW, July 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The yellow clouds that surprised Muscovites on Tuesday were coloured by dust from the Sahara Desert, a source at the Russian Hydro Meteorological Centre told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
According to the meteorologists, a few days ago, local residents on the British Islands saw dust on their cars and other surfaces. Earlier, about ten days ago, a dust storm raged in the Sahara, more than 3,000 km away from Britain.
Sand and dust were raised in the air, and the east winds brought the clouds far westward to the Atlantic.
Dust from the Sahara is brought to the British Islands more than one time a year, the meteorological service noted.
The dust clouds moved east then. On July 2, meteorologists in Latvia saw that the atmosphere was somewhat obscured. On Tuesday, the dust clouds were seen over Moscow. People also felt that the air was damp and warm. The temperature was 24 degrees Centigrade with 80-percent air humidity.
What was seen in the air was dust that gave the yellow colour to the clouds, the meteorologist said, adding that after the cold atmosphere front came into the Moscow region, the air became dry and clear.
