KIEV, July 4 (Itar-Tass) — Vladimir Litvin on Wednesday tendered his resignation as speaker of the Ukrainian parliament. Now the parliament must make a decision on his resignation.
According to Ukrainian media outlets, Litvin made this decision after the “language” law giving Russian the status of regional language, was passed on Tuesday in circumvention of regulations.
Prior to the voting, Litvin left the session hall and first deputy speaker, Communist Adam Martynyuk, led the procedure.
Litvin, who leads the Ukrainian People’s Party, has been speaker since 2008. Earlier, he was speaker of the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) from 2002 to 2006.
