MOSCOW, July 3 (Itar-Tass) —— Bashkortostan’s Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Ovchinnikov is suspected of office abuse and taking a bribe.

The investigation department in the Volga Federal District opened a criminal case against the police major-general, spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

He noted that the grounds to open the criminal case were given in the criminal materials of the Bashkir branch of the Federal Security Service and the internal security department at the request of the commander of the police unit. “He noted that Ovchinnikov received many times from him expensive gifts and services in the sphere of property for providing most favourable conditions in his service activities and for general covering and connivance,” Markin said.

The investigation into the criminal case continues.
