Lukashenko says no hereditary transfer of power in Belarus

“I am surprised to read and hear more and more often that Lukashenko is here forever,” he said

MINSK, July 2 (Itar-Tass) — There can be no hereditary transfer of power in Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko said on the occasion of Independence Day on Monday, July 2.

“There can be no hereditary transfer of power,” he said, adding, “I am surprised to read and hear more and more often that Lukashenko is here forever.”

“I say this again, but not as justification: my children are fed up with presidency under their father. There can be no hereditary transfer of power,” the president said.

Lukashenko appeared to be angered by assertions that he allegedly has billion-worth personal holdings abroad. “Our country is an island of honesty and justice. This is how it is assessed not only in our country but outside it as well,” he said.

“We must not mar the image of an honest and decent country,” Lukashenko said.
