Medvedev says state is not liable for people who lose money in pyramid schemes

“Why should the state be held responsible for people who keep making the same mistake,” he noted

VLADIVOSTOK, July 2 (Itar-Tass) — It is not the fault of the state that people lose their money in pyramid schemes, such as the notorious MMM, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday at a meeting with United Russia activists in the Russian Far Eastern city of Vladivostok.

In his words, the state has no responsibility for such people. “As a party force we must educate people,” he said at “After all, if a person makes a silly step, it is a problem the brains. It is not a purely legislative problem.”

“Why should the state be held responsible for people who keep making the same mistake,” he noted. Although he said he did not mean those people who lost their last money in pyramid schemes. “Many wanted to derive profits for nothing,” he said. If a person invests in a financial pyramid scheme, he or she must be aware of the risks, he added.
