Kamchatka policeman's Toyota collides with moped, killing teenager

A medical examination revealed that the police officer was in a state of alcoholic intoxication

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, July 2 (Itar-Tass) — A 16-year-old adolescent has died here in a road incident involving a policeman. A pre-investigation checkup has been started, an officer at the SKR (Investigation Committee of Russia) department for the Kamchatka Territory told Itar-Tass on Monday.

According to investigation bodies' data, the incident, information on which appeared in the media on Monday, happened on June 30 at 23:05, local time. A Toyota car of a police officer of the SKR department for Kamchatka Territory collided with a moped in one of the city's residential neighbourhoods, killing a minor who died of injuries on the spot. According to the data of the Kamchatka department of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, there were also civilians in the car together with a police major, the car was driven by the policeman's mother and the adolescent ostensibly rode into the lane of oncoming traffic, which resulted in the collision.

The Investigation Department personnel do not confirm the information. They say that the carwas driven by the police officer. A medical examination revealed that the police officer was in a state of alcoholic intoxication. The other circumstances of the incident are being verified as well.
