Western media distorts information about Syrian events – deputy minister

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister confirmed that Damascus had been fulfilling the peace plan of UN/LAS Special Envoy Kofi Annan

BEIRUT, July 1 (Itar-Tass) —— The Western media distorts information about Syrian events, hushes down facts and makes incorrect reports about the internal conflict, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faysal Al-Miqdad said at a meeting with a delegation of the Russian Public Chamber led by former UN Under Secretary General Sergei Ordzhonikidze in Damascus on Sunday.

“The Western media deliberately distorts facts and conceals from the world the real events in Syria,” he said as quoted by Sana. “The media neglects the main principle of neutrality in news reports. Syria is facing a wide-range foreign conspiracy.”

The deputy minister thanked Russia on behalf of the Syrian government for support and said the two states had a close relationship. He confirmed that Damascus had been fulfilling the peace plan of UN/LAS Special Envoy Kofi Annan.

In turn, Ordzhonikidze said the Russian delegation was visiting Syria “to meet with the Syrian public and clerics for learning the real situation in the country and conveying the truth to the Russians.”
