GENEVA, June 30 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov named the Geneva conference on Syria useful and open.
“I believe that the Action Group session was useful and open,” Lavrov told a press conference after the Geneva conference on Syria on Saturday.
The fact that Iran and Saudi Arabia did not take part in the conference is a mistake, the Russian minister said. These countries have considerable influence on the situation in Syria, he added.
Commenting on Russian weapons supplies to Syria, Lavrov stressed: “It is very difficult to use it to fight against the armed opposition or peaceful civilians.”
“Our arms are used exclusively for the air attack protection,” the Russian minister said.
