St PETERSBURG, June 29 (Itar-Tass) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in St Petersburg on a working visit. Her jet landed at Pulkovo airport at 19:10 Moscow Standard Time.
Right at the airdrome, she was met by the St Petersburg Governor, Oleg Markov.
Markov told reporters earlier he had invited Clinton to get familiarized with the city’s many cultural and historical sights.
She said in a comment on this she would try to find time and see at least some of them, as this is her first visit to St Petersburg.
From the airport, the escort of cars took the Secretary of State and her hosts to the Monument to Heroic Defenders of Leningrad, where the director of the memorial compound gave a brief excursion for her and the accompanying Vice Admiral Harry Harris.
Secretary Clinton and Harry Harris put at a basket of red roses at the monument.
Clinton’s itinerary for Friday features a number of meetings, including the ones with Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the upper house of Russian parliament, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
