Putin, Erdogan discuss situation in Syria, incident with plane

MOSCOW, June 27 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Syria and around it, including within the context of the recent tragic incident with a Turkish fighter jet brought down by Syria’s air defense forces.

It was stressed during the conversation that the circumstances of this incident must be thoroughly investigated, the Kremlin press service reports.

The sides touched upon issues of bilateral relations, expressing their interest in the success of a next session of the High-Level Cooperation Council, due in Turkey in September. Putin and Erdogan also discussed future personal contacts.

Besides, they gave high marks to the results of a jubilee summit of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, held in Istanbul on June 26. The telephone conversation was initiated by the Turkish side, the press service said.
