MOSCOW, June 27 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to toughen punishment for drunken driving.
At a meeting between the president and senators of the Federation Council a senator raised the problem of a high death rate on the Russian roads over drunken drivers.
“Frankly speaking, I do not remember what sanctions we have and whether these sanctions are sufficient,” the president acknowledged.
He agreed with the concerns of the lawmakers, “Let’s make it tougher.”
The president instructed the lawmakers to draft relevant amendments in the effective legislation.
