PM Dmitry Medvedev visits Ukraine to promote cooperation

KIEV, June 27 (Itar-Tass) — Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Kiev for talks on problems of bilateral cooperation, including in the field of energy.

Medvedev will take part in the ninth session of the Committee for economic cooperation under the Russo-Ukrainian Interstate Commission co-chaired by the heads of government of the two countries. The Russian prime minister will also meet Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich.

On the agenda of the meeting attended by Dmitry Medvedev is mutual cooperation in energy and trade, measures to build up mutual trade, prospects for cooperation in energy, transport, aircraft building, space exploration, the agrarian-industrial sector, credit and finance sector, science and engineering and development of interregional and border cooperation.

Russia intends to draw attention to problems of ensuring the legitimate rights of Russian investors in Ukraine, which is of priority importance for broadening cooperation in investments and realization of joint economic projects, said a source from the Russian government. On agenda is also a problem of stepping up Ukraine's ratification of an Agreement on the zone of free trade in the CIS ( in Russia the ratification procedures were complete in April).

Ukraine ranks fourth on list of Russia's main foreign economic partners after China, the Netherlands and Germany, and it has been Russia' s partner No. 1 among the CIS states.
