Chief coach of Russian football team to be nominated after Football Union pres is appointed

The fact that Dick Advocaat may no longer be the chief coach is logical, Peskov said

JERUSALEM, June 26 (Itar-Tass) — A candidate for chief coach of the Russian national football team will be named after a new president of the Russian Football Union is appointed, press secretary to the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Tuesday.

Commenting on the resignation of the Union’s president Sergei Fursenko, Peskov noted that “the story with a new national team’s coach is now being finalized, the work will be continued.”

“No doubt, both the Russian Football Union and Fursenko tried to do their best, as did the national team and the chief coach, they all did their utmost to play well at the European championship. But, regrettably, there is no doubt either that in the long run out national team suffered a crushing defeat,” he noted.

“On the background of this failure, Fursenko’s decision to leave his post looks quite logical and comprehendible,” Peskov said. “And the fact that Dick Advocaat may no longer be the chief coach is also logical, and it will take time and certain procedures until a new president of the Russian Football Union is appointed.”

“As soon as it is clear who heads the Union, the situation around a candidate for chief coach will clarify as well,” Peskov added.
