VLADIVOSTOK, June 26 (Itar-Tass) – Road construction teams in Vladivostok have rounded up the repairs of a problem section of the Sedanka-Patrokl automobile road built as part of a sweeping project to upgrade the city’s infrastructures in the run-up to a summit conference of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum /APEC/.

The repairs took twelve days, in the course of which the repair teams reinforced the back slopes of the road bank made of special baskets with stones used in building abutments.

The press service of the Pacific Bridge Construction company gave the assurances that the road will be commissioned for traffic in accordance with the initial plans, or July 2.

June 12, the rains that had been pouring for two days on end washed out a section of the Sedanka-Patrokl road, causing a partial collapse of the soil and a damage of the roadbed at a section near Tikhaya bay.

Stones and mu slid on to a garage cooperative located below the road.

The prosecutors instituted a criminal case under an article of the Criminal Code citing punishment for “encroachments on regulations during construction works entailing a big damage".

Primorsky /Maritime/ territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky told a news conference Monday the collapse of the soil at the road had occurred because of faulty designing and violations of technology in the process of construction.

For instance, the tall gabion walls consisting of separate baskets with stones have deformed under their own weight.

Another miscalculation was an improper system of water removal.

The officials who failed to ensure proper control over the quality of construction works have been punished or fired, Miklushevsky said. One of the fired officials is Andrei Razgonov, the director of the Primorsky territory’s department for road construction and maintenance.

The new automobile road from the township of Novy to De-Freze Peninsula to Sedanka to Patrokl Bay will link the airport and the city. It will has bridges across the Zolotoi Rog bay and the strait of Bosporus Vostochny.

It will become the major backbone element of Vladivostok’s overhauled road insfrastructure.
