MOSCOW, June 26 (Itar-Tass) — The Moscow mayor office has rejected Left Front’s application to hold a rally, as applicants were brought to administrative responsibility for violations during mass rallies two and more times, the head of Moscow’s regional security department, Alexei Mayorov, told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“Applications that we are now getting are considered in compliance with the new law (toughening responsibility for violations during mass rallies), therefore there is no talk that it has retroactive effect. If citizens were brought to responsibility, they cannot be organizers of any rallies,” he said.
Mayorov noted that Left Front activists were not the first ones to get their application rejected.
“There were already several such cases this month,” he said.
Activists of Left Front filed an application to hold a rally on July 1 against “Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization without a referendum.”
“Representatives of Left Front plan to file a complaint to the Constitutional Court and to hold a rally concerning Russia’s accession to the WTO in any case, only in other format,” the press service of the opposition party said.
