JERUSALEM, June 25 (Itar-Tass) —— The presidents of Russia and Israel, Vladimir Putin and Shimon Peres, have discussed Iran’s nuclear problems and the development of humanitarian relations.
“Iran’s present leaders speak openly about the wish to raze Israel off the face of the earth. We could not tolerate it if the regime threatening us should get hold of nuclear weapons. I address you personally on this matter, as you know what this moment means to our destiny. I am sure that you voice on this matter will be heard,” Peres said at the meeting with Putin.
The Russian leader, on his part, noted that the situation in the world and in the region changes very much. “In these changing conditions we must find such forms of interaction among all countries of the region and in the world that would enable everyone to live in peace and calm and create such conditions as would ensure development,” Putin stressed.
He said, “It is in Russia’s national interests to ensure peace and calm in the Middle East and in Israel.”
Putin said it was not accidental that the Soviet Union was the initiator of the creation of the State of Israel. He noted that he held fruitful and substantive talks with Israeli Prime Minister Binjamin Netanyahu this Monday.
“We have summed up the results of what has been done and talked about the need to increase our interaction in near future,” Putin stressed.
