JERUSALEM, June 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia is concerned for one million of former compatriots residing in Israel and wants the situation in the Middle East to stabilize, Russian President Vladimir Putin said after the talks with Israeli Prime Minister Biniamin Netanyahu. Putin stressed once again that regional conflicts should be settled without outside interference.
“Today’s meeting focused on the situation in the Middle East,” Putin said, noting that about one million of former compatriots live in Israel. “We would like them to live in conditions of peace and security,” Putin stressed.
In this connection the Russian president noted that he discussed with Netanyahu Iran’s nuclear program and Syrian settlement.
“Russia from the beginning of the so-called Arab Spring was consistently persuading our partners that democratic transformations must be made in a civilized way and without outside interference,” Putin noted.
He said, “Against the background of the events in the Middle East, the need to settle long-standing conflicts, above all the Arab-Israeli conflict, increases ever more.” “We call on the sides to resume the talks, as this is the only way to settlement,” the Russian president said.
