NETANYA, Israel, June 25 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin called for defending the truth on the Great Patriotic War and standing against history revision.

Speaking at a ceremony of opening the memorial to the Red Army victory over Nazi Germany on Monday, Putin said history revision was a crime before the memory of millions of people, who had died for the victory over Nazism and the future generations.

“We should do everything possible not to forget the conclusions of the Nurnberg Tribunal and the criminal Nazi doctrines. We oblige to preserve and defend the truth of the war and run counter any attempts in order to justify Nazis’ accomplices. We will prevent the attempts to bring in line torturers and their victims and we will come against any lie and falsification,” the Russian leader stressed.

According to Putin, “Such revision is a crime before the memory of millions of people who gave life for the victory and before the future generations that should know their genuine heroes of World War II and differ the truth from a whacking and cynical lie.”

The memorial “will remind us of unexampled heroism and moral courage of the war generation and proves that the victory over Nazism became paramount significance for all peoples on the planet”, Putin noted. “In Russia the memory about this terrible war is sacred. We value that millions people in Israel share our feelings. The memorable dates – June 22, 1941 and May 9, 1945 – are sounded especially both in Russia and in Israel,” the Russian president said.

“Holocaust is one of the black, tragic and infamous pages in the history of mankind. Till now we cannot accept the unprecedented atrocities of Nazism,” he said. “It’s the Soviet Army that put an end to these crimes and saved Jews and other peoples from complete extermination,” he emphasized.

“This monument was erected on the Holy Land in honour of the Red Army victory over Nazism,” Putin said. He thanked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for building this monument and expressed gratitude to President Shimon Peres.
