MOSCOW, June 25 (Itar-Tass) — The felling of trees in the birch grove in the Balashikha district and the Tsagovsky forest in the city of Zhukovsky is stopped officially, district officials reported to the Moscow Region's Vice-Governor Ruslan Tsalikov during a telephone conference on Monday.
The vice-governor asked to report how Governor Sergei Shoigu's instructions were followed to halt the felling of trees in the birch grove and the Tsagovsky forest.
In accordance with the governor's directions, work was organized on the weekend (so-called Subbotniks) last Saturday and Sunday to tidy up the territory, where a park is planned to be laid out, the Balashikha district's representative said.
The district's authorities overruled the resolution on the land area. There is full mutual understanding with the initiative group of citizens. There will be no construction at the site, and the citizens are informed about it, the official added.
That is no return to the former situation, and it is sealed legally, Tsalikov noted.
"Yes, the issue is settled," the official confirmed.
Zhukovsky's representative also reported that the felling of trees in the forest was stopped.
The next day after the governor's visit, a public commission was formed. All the issues are settled together with the public. A public ecological post is stationed at the road construction site to control the work. The first measures are taken, the city representative said.
"Is there a guarantee that no more will be felled? How is it formalized?" Tsalikov asked.
"We will prepare a document to make it public that there will be no housing construction there," the city official assured.
