At a two-day meeting the experts will discuss energy efficiency and the development of nuclear and gas industries

ST. PETERSBURG, June 24 (Itar-Tass) —— The energy ministers from the member-countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will meet here on Sunday. The meeting will be held within Russia’s presidency in the APEC.

The tenth meeting of the energy ministers from the APEC states is devoted to energy security, new challenges and possible strategic solutions in this sphere. Representatives from the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council, the Pacific Islands Forum and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will join the meeting. Energy Minister Alexander Novak will represent Russia at the meeting.

At a two-day meeting the experts will discuss energy efficiency and the development of nuclear and gas industries. The negotiations should result in a joint declaration, which will dwell on the use of natural gas and a higher gas share in the energy balances of the APEC economies, bringing down their energy intensity and a higher security for the use of nuclear power in the region.

In next few days several other APEC events will be held in St. Petersburg, including meetings of the innovative forum on the sciences of living, the working group on health care, a round-table meeting devoted to the use of information technologies for the build-up and development of the health care system, the international conference titled efficiency of national strategies for a higher level of financial literacy, a high-level meeting on the investments in the healthy lifestyle, a ministerial meeting on the mining industry and a forum devoted to women and economy.
