Russia won’t make excuses for military-technical cooperation with Syria, Lavrov said

He denied claims of the alleged delivery of new weapons to Syria

MOSCOW, June 22 (Itar-Tass) — Russia won’t make excuses for military-technical cooperation with Syria to the U.S., Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Rossiya 24 on Friday.

“I am not going to make excuses or dwell on this subject. We violate nothing, neither international laws, nor UN Security Council resolutions nor national export control laws, which are one of the world’s strictest,” he said.

The minister said he was prepared to discuss Russia-Syria military cooperation at the St. Petersburg meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on June 29 but he would not make excuses. “I am prepared for this conversation, the same as for the discussion of other topics. We also have many questions to ask the Americans,” Lavrov said.

He denied claims of the alleged delivery of new weapons to Syria.
