Timoshenko not to petition for pardon – lawyer

“I think we will do without pardoning,” he stressed

KIEV, June 21 (Itar-Tass) — Leader of the Ukrainian opposition and former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko, who is serving a term on office abuse charges, will not petition for pardon to President Viktor Yanukovich, Timoshenko’s lawyer Alexander Plakhotnyuk told journalists on Thursday.

“Yulia Vladimirovna [Timoshenko] will not appeal to the president with a petition for pardon,” he said. “In any case, it is too early to speak about pardoning, since Timoshenko’s case on the 2009 gas contracts is not yet through all the instances.”

“I think we will do without pardoning,” he stressed.

Earlier, Ukrainian Minister of Justice Alexander Lavrinovich said Timoshenko cannot be pardoned without a personal petition. Timoshenko however has repeatedly said she would never ask President Yanukovich to pardon herself.
