Quarzwerke ore-dressing factory commissioned in Ulyanovsk region

President of the Quarzwerke group Robert Lindemann-Berk thanked the regional government for its support in implementing the project

ULYANOVSK, June 20 (Itar-Tass) — Germany's Quarzwerke opened an ore-dressing factory in the Ulyanovsk region on Wednesday. The investment in the project reached over 1.2 billion roubles, the press service of the regional government reported.

The opening ceremony took place in the village of Silikatny, Sengileyevsky district. The ore dressing works will produce enriched quartz sand for the glass industry. The production floor is in close proximity to the eastern section of the Tashlinsky quartz sand deposit.

It is planned that the factory's output should reach 1.3 million tons a year. The facility is expected to attain the rated capacity in late 2013. Tax revenue to the regional budget will make up some 90 million roubles a year. The company will create some 130 new jobs, the press service said.

Governor Sergei Morozov noted that Quarzwerke's choice of the Ulyanovsk region meant its appreciation of the region's economic potential and a sign of confidence in the regional government’s policy to support investors.

"We're interested in all ways in developing mutually advantageous cooperation with such well-known and highly professional companies as Quarzwerke. For many decades, this company has been most prestigious in the world market of construction materials and we're sincerely happy that the world-famous brand is now present in our region," Morozov said.

"The Quarzwerke project is a fine example of state-private partnership, where cooperation between the state and business can yield good results," the governor added.

Director General of the Ulyanovsk region development corporation Dmitry Ryabov said the factory would make use of advance European technologies which are used by the twin company in Germany.

"It's not the first ore-dressing works in our region. We're developing a clsuter of proessing companies. Whereas factories used to export raw-materials for glassmaking factories in the 1990s, they will start exporting semi-finished products now," Ryabov underlined.

President of the Quarzwerke group Robert Lindemann-Berk thanked the regional government for its support in implementing the project.

"We did not expect the factory to be built in such a tight timeframe. It's yet another indication of the attention the Ulyanovsk region is paying to the investment policy. The results of this work are seen even now. The region has changed much in the past four years," he noted.
