VLADIVOSTOK, June 20 (Itar-Tass) —— The accident of a freight train on the Trans-Siberian main line on June 19 supposedly was caused by bad technical condition of the train and also defects of the track, spokeswoman for the Far Eastern regional transport investigative department Natalia Salkina said on Wednesday.
The accident occurred on the Transsib railroad in the Jewish Autonomous Region on Tuesday. Eleven cars, four loaded and seven empty, derailed. Three hundred metres of the track were damaged, and two supports of the electric line were broken. An engineer of a refrigerator section was injured. With rib and collarbone fractures and other injuries he was hospitalized in the central regional hospital in Birobidzhan.
An investigation into the accident is continuing. Experts will conduct examinations of the train and the tracks and check whether the technical service of the train was proper.
