Death toll in pillar crane collapse in Chelyabinsk reg grows to 6

Criminal proceedings have been opened over the death of Chinese workers

CHELYABINSK, June 20 (Itar-Tass) — The death toll in a pillar crane collapse at the Troitskaya state district power station in the Chelyabinsk region has grown to six, the press service of the regional emergencies ministry told Tass on Wednesday.

“Repair work has been completed. Six people (all of them are Chinese workers) were killed. Four were injured, they were hospitalized with different injuries,” the press centre said.

The crane collapsed on June 18. Criminal proceedings have been opened over the death of Chinese workers.

"The case was opened under Article 216, Part 3 of the penal code /"violation of safety roles during construction works, which resulted in the death of two or more persons by negligence"/, an official at the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee /SK/ told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
