Trans-Caucasian route cleared of mudslide, traffic resumes

The republican emergency situations department said there were four mudslides in all

VLADIKAVKAZ, June 19 (Itar-Tass) —— The trans-Caucasian route linking Russia with South Ossetia has been cleared of mudslide and opened for traffic, the North Ossetian Emergency Situations Ministry told Itar-Tass.

The traffic was closed both ways at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday by the republican emergency situations commission. Pouring rain has been on for several days and the level of water in rivers has grown.

The republican emergency situations department said there were four mudslides in all. “Road services have cleared more than 3,000 cubic meters of stones. The situation was the worst 60 kilometers away from the village Buron,” it said. “The intensive work of repairmen helped reopen traffic at 8:30 p.m.”
