Primorye police open criminal case over Vladivostok road collapse

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev harshly ordered a thorough investigation and punishment of the culprits on Monday

VLADIVOSTOK, June 19 (Itar-Tass) — The Primorye police opened a criminal case on Tuesday over the collapse of a new road built in Vladivostok ahead of the APEC summit of September 2012, the regional department of the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The charge is a breach of construction rules leading to major damage, it said.

Judging by tentative findings, rains washed out supports under the road due to the absence of drainage. Detectives will identify the culprits. The damage exceeds 1.7 million rubles. Two days of heavy rains lead to the caving of a part of the new road in Tikhaya Bay on June 12. Garages under the road were buried under stones and soil.
