Four-point quake hits Jewish Autonomous Region

KHABAROVSK, June 19 (Itar-Tass) — An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 points occurred in the Jewish Autonomous Region on Monday evening. According to the information of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, its epicenter was situated 170 kilometers to the south-west of Birobidjan at a depth of 15 kilometers, the ITAR-TASS learnt at the Far Eastern Regional Center of the Ministry for Emergencies (EMERCON) on Tuesday.

Underground tremors with 3-4 points on the Richter scale were felt in Birobidjan, as well as in the Obluchensky, Oktyabrsky and Birobidjan regions. There are no victims or destructions.

According to EMERCON services, jolts were also felt in Khabarovsk. According to EMERCON specialists, there were no disruptions in the work of energy and housing and communal economy facilities, as well as potentially dangerous enterprises. Nevertheless, the government of the Khabarovsk Territory has taken the situation under its special control.
