LOS CABOS, Mexico, June 19 (Itar-Tass) – Press service of the Russian President has split into two departments, and the newly formed department will take charge of state communications, the presidential Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov said here Monday.
He indicated both departments will assist himself and the Deputy Chief of the Presidential Administration staff, Alexei Gromov.
“The department of the press service and the department of state communications are two units of the same block of the Presidential Administration,” Peskov said.
“The department of state communications will coordinate informational activity of the agencies of state power – ministries and government departments – not only inside the country but also abroad,” he said.
“The new department will take charge of the issues related to Russia’s image abroad, the planning and implementation of image-building and informational measures, large international events which we’re going to have in abundance, APEC, the G20, the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and other major sports events,” Peskov said.
Both departments will support the work delegated to Peskov and Alexei Gromov, but Peskov will be their official supervisor.
Earlier, President Putin signed a decree appointing Alexander Smirnov to the position of director of the department of public communications.
