LOS CABOS, June 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin invited U.S. President Barack Obama to visit Moscow.
“You were in Russia three years ago and I am pleased to invite to Moscow,” Putin said.
Obama thanked Putin for the invitation and said he would be looking forward to going to Russia.
He also invited Putin to come to the United States on a visit.
Putin and Obama met before the G20 summit in Los Cabos on Monday, June 18.
The meeting is taking place at the hotel Esperanza, which is Obama’s residence for the duration of the G20 summit.
The Russian delegation includes Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak and presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The American delegation includes Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Thomas Donilon, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, and presidential assistant for Russia Alice Wells.
This is the second meeting between Putin and Obama. Their first meeting took place in Moscow when the U.S. president was in Russia on a visit and Putin was a prime minister.
The meeting took place behind closed doors. The two leaders make a statement for the press after the talks.
