MINSK, June 18 (Itar-Tass) — Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has signed decree regulating the terms of parliamentary elections in the country.

Elections to the House of Representatives (lower house of parliament) will be held on September 23 and to the Council of the Republic (upper house) between June 30 and September 30, 2012, the presidential press service said on Monday, June 18.

“The terms were set in accordance with the Constitution, under which elections to a new parliament are called by the president not later than four months and are conducted not later than 30 days before the end of the term of the incumbent houses,” the press service said.

The term of the incumbent House of Representatives ends on October 27, and the term of the Council of the Republic on October 31, 2012.

“Funding for the preparation and conduct of the elections will be provided within the amounts earmarked for this purpose in the republican budget for 2102,” the press service said.
