EU not intend to revoke embargo on Iranian oil

This can happen only if Iran steps forwards

MOSCOW, June 18 (Itar-Tass) — The European Union is not going to revoke the embargo on Iranian oil, spokesman for the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Michael Mann, said on Monday.

This can happen only if Iran steps forwards, Mann told journalists. Till now Iran has not made any statement, the spokesman added.

At the same time, Mann made it clear that the European Union did not hope for any changes on this issue after the Moscow round of talks.

In January the EU took a decision to toughen sanctions on Iran’s oil and suspend Iranian oil import in full from July 1. In response, in February Iran terminated oil supplies to British and French companies. Until recently about 18 percent of Iranian oil export has accounted on the EU. Italy, Spain and Greece are its key consumers.
