MOSCOW, June 17 (Itar-Tass) —— Leaders of BRICS Group member countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) will have a mini-summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, on Monday, several hours before the G20 summit to compare their positions on key financial, economic and international affairs.
“The BRICS mini-summit will take place ahead of the G20 Mexican summit by the initiative of the Indian chair,” Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said. “Mini-summits of the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa become traditional. The previous mini-summit took place on November 3, 2011, ahead of the G20 Cannes meeting.”
“It is important to compare positions on key items of the G20 summit agenda, first of all, the eurozone situation, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reform and the G20 development prospects. That will be done in the context of our presidency in the BRICS Group in 2015,” the aide said. “BRICS is a good floor for the joint protection of interests of member countries with dynamic economies on the world scene.”
“It is important for BRICS that the G20 create conditions for the coordination of the macroeconomic policy, assistance to the global economic recovery and provision of financial stability,” Ushakov said. “That can be done with the help of the upgraded international currency and financial architecture.”
“The BRICS fourth summit held in New Delhi, India, on March 29, 2012, was an important phase of the development of the union and coordination of vast practical plans and contacts in the near- and long-term prospective. The BRICS leaders will use the Los Cabos meeting to discuss the fulfillment of the Delhi action plan of the development of cooperation and Delhi summit initiatives,” he said. “Russia will emphasize the significance it ascribes to the development of the BRICS long-term development strategy and the creation of the BRICS Business Council. Both Russian ideas gained support of BRICS partners at the Delhi summit.”
“The partners will also discuss pressing international political problems, in the first turn, Syria. Coordination of the approaches of BRICS member countries is particularly important ahead of the international conference on Syria initiated by Russia and [UN/LAS Special Envoy on Syria] Kofi Annan,” the aide said.
“The next BRICS summit will take place in South Africa on March 29, 2013. Russia will chair BRICS in 2015,” he said.
