Dvorakovsky’s victory shows people trust experienced managers – United Russia’s Neverov

The election had a record low turnout, 16.94%

MOSCOW, June 17 (Itar-Tass) —— The victory of Vyacheslav Dvorakovsky in the Omsk early mayoral election is another proof to people’s confidence in “managers who are well aware of city problems,” United Russia General Council Secretary, State Duma Vice-Speaker Sergei Neverov told reporters on Sunday.

United Russia nominee Dvorakovsky is an experienced manager, who has been the chief engineer of the Mostovik Company for years and has been elected a city council deputy several times.

“The support of local residents will help the new mayor to resolve problems of Omsk and to improve the life of people,” Neverov said.

He said the election was fair: the majority of polling stations were equipped with electronic ballot counting systems and 100% of them had web camera. “The election was open and transparent, and our candidate won fairly,” he said.

Neverov admitted the small turnout but said it was a holiday season, and the most active voters came to polling stations. He also noted that the parliament would have the second hearing of a bill, which shifted the voting day to September. “If the decision is made, people will come to polling stations without having to adjust their personal schedule,” Neverov said.

Dvorakovsky won the early mayoral election in Omsk on Sunday. The city elections commission preliminary estimated his rating at 49%. Before March 2012 Dvorakovsky had been the chief engineer of Mostovik, one of the largest construction companies in Russia.

Communist Party candidate Viktor Zharkov ranked second, with approximately 20% of votes.

There were seven candidates in the election – Dvorakovsky, Viktor Zharkov (the Communist Party), Yan Zelinsky (the Liberal Democratic Party), Alexander Korotkov (Yabloko), Irina Overina (A Just Russia) and self-nominated candidates Igor Antropov and Sergei Maslennikov.

The election had a record low turnout, 16.94%.
