ST PETERSBURG, June 16 (Itar-Tass) — Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said the bipartite system akin to the United States could hardly emerge in Russia in the coming years.
Meeting members of the United Russia party regional branch on Saturday, Medvedev, who is the party’s leader, said, “I don’t believe that political parties similar to America’s ones may emerge in Russia in the coming years. Frankly speaking, there is no colossal difference between the Republicans and the Democrats.”
At the same time, he said this system ensured stability in the development of the society and the economy. “But due to my political experience, I believe that till now we are far from this. We are another country and we have another, more European, criteria set for the success and values,” the United Russia leader said.
“Frankly speaking, our country is poorer that is why the ideology will be significant in our country for many years,” Medvedev pointed out.
“We should create such criteria set, which will meet the interests of the most of our people. These are traditional values for our society – based on moral, on the Church by taking into account, of course, the fact that there are four main confessions in our country,” the prime minister said.
“We should do everything possible to make United Russia a party, which will be identified with the values what you can vote for. Let’s think how it may be combined,” Medvedev stressed.
