Yabloko seeks to prepare Russia for new elections – Yavlinsky

Yavlinsky confirmed that the party was ready for cooperation with other political forces “with the exception of Stalinists and nationalists”

MOSKOVSKY, Moscow region, June 16 (Itar-Tass) — The priority task of the Yabloko opposition party is to prepare the country for new elections, founder of the party Grigory Yavlinsky said.

Speaking at the 17th congress of the Yabloko party on Saturday, Yavlinsky said, “The priority task of the party is to prepare the country for new [presidential and parliamentary] elections that are due to be held at any moment.”

“More probably they may take place much earlier than in 4-5 years,” the Yabloko party founder added.

“As I was presidential candidate so I took this position. We will be ready to beaten Putin at the elections,” he said. The Yabloko party is ready to take part in the elections at all levels, Yavlinsky noted.

He believes it necessary to hold early presidential and State Duma elections because they are not legitimate. New elections to the Moscow Duma and the re-election of the Moscow mayor are also indispensable due to the enlargement of the city’s territory, Yavlinsky stressed.

Commenting on opposition rallies related to the results of the federal elections, the Yabloko party founder said, “We will not allow anyone to destroy it. We will do our best to make opposition rallies peaceful and substantial. Our task is to fill them with substance.”

Yavlinsky confirmed that the party was ready for cooperation with other political forces “with the exception of Stalinists and nationalists, in order to achieve the key goal – to conduct fair elections”.

According to the party’s chairman, Sergei Mitrokhin, “the Yabloko party is ready to agree to make up different lists [of parties] in regions.” Mitrokhin said he did not rule out cooperation between Yabloko and PARNAS (the People’s Freedom Party), the Republican Party, the Democratic Choice of Russia, Social Democrats and others.
