GROZNY, June 16 (Itar-Tass) —— Two militants have been killed in Chechnya while making preparations for a terrorist attack against the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov, the web-site of Chechnya’s leader and government has said. They had arrived in Grozny on instructions from warlord Doku Umarov.
Taking part in the operation to neutralize the militants was a group of law enforcers under the chief of the Kurchaloi police department Khamzat Edilgireyev.
Ramzan Kadyrov commanded the operation himself.
As Edilgireyev said, there had been a tip from an informer Umarov had sent to Grozny several suicide bombers with instructions to take any action, including a suicide bomb attack, to liquidate Kadyrov.
“Umarov complemented his instructions with a remark that no other terrorist attacks, explosions or murders of officials would influence the situation in the republic as long as Kadyrov remained alive. From the very moment they emerged from the woods the militants were under surveillance. As soon as convincing evidence was gathered of their intention to stage a terrorist attack a decision was made to detain them,” Edilgireyev said.
The militants offered armed resistance and were killed.
“Firearms and explosives were seized. The militants’ identities are being established. No participant in the operation was injured,” Edilgireyev said.
