WARSAW, June 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Seven Russian citizens, who were detained in the Polish capital on June 12, the day of a Euro match between Russia and Poland, expect deportation from the country, press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw Maria Chekaleva told Itar-Tass on Friday.
“Thirteen Russians are being kept in custody,” she said. “Seven Russian citizens expect the deportation from the country. All of them were convicted under Article 158 of the Polish Criminal Code for brawls and attacks on police. The term of temporary arrest was extended for 6 arrested Russian fans to 1-3 months,” she said.
“According to our reports, another Russian is accused of using pyrotechnic devices, but this is not the final information,” the press secretary said.
“The courts did not make official reports to us, we are gathering all the information ourselves,” Chekaleva concluded.
The Russian Embassy in Poland gives the necessary assistance to all Russians, who got in trouble in the republic. The consular officers meet regularly with the detainees and injured people.
Meanwhile, the Polish court passed the first verdicts to Russian fans, who were detained in the Polish capital on June 12. The trials of the criminal cases over the acts of hooliganism, brawls, attacks on police and property damage passed in the accelerated way and continued until late evening on Thursday.
The first verdicts to Russian fans were passed in the Warsaw District Court, which sentenced a Russian detainee to two months in prison and the second one to three months in prison. “The convicts will serve sentence in Poland,” press secretary of the court Wojciech Malek said.
The Warsaw-Prague District Court also stated about the verdict to the Russian fan, who was accused of hurling a flare on the football pitch. “He was found innocent,” press secretary of the court Marcin Lochowski said. “The detainee was already released,” he said, noting that another football hooligan, who ran on the pitch after the match, was sentenced to a suspended term of three months in prison.
However, a small group of Russians will have to wait for a verdict for some more time, because the crimes incriminated to them are tried in the standard procedure. “The criminal case against four Russians, who were involved in the provocative acts, was brought back to the prosecutor’s office to add some more evidence to the case files and conduct the investigation in the conventional mode,” Lochowski said. “For these people the court ruled to put them under temporary arrest for three months,” he noted.
The verdicts were already passed to 37 Polish hooligans. Some of them will be also put in prison for several months, many of them were given suspended sentences or fined for petty offences. The Polish court also sentenced two Spaniards to several months in prison.
During the disorders on June 12 the Warsaw police detained 184 people, including 156 Poles and 25 Russians, as well as Spaniards, a Hungarian citizen and an Algerian citizen. Several dozens of people, including 17 policemen, were wounded. Some 25 Russians turned for medical aid.
