MOSCOW, June 13 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Federal Migration Service /FMS/ to draw proposals to toughen migration legislation and discuss new measures with the public.

"We have legal opportunities to secure a stricter order here, and this should be done," the head of state said at a meeting with FMS director Konstantin Romodanovsky on Wednesday.

"Of course, it should be done openly," he said.

"Such things as migration legislation and all novelties in this field should be endorsed after a thorough discussion by public organizations and public at large," Putin stated.

"Therefore, I ask you to expedite the preparation of these proposals in the first place and put everything to be discussed on the Internet and have it discussed with the public in the most thorough and active manner: not only at the Public Chamber and not only with lawmakers, but also with public organizations and ethnic communities," the president said.
