WARSAW, June 13 (Itar-Tass) —— None of the Russian soccer fans was hurt seriously in the march they had before the Tuesday match of the Russian and Polish national teams, Russian Soccer Union President Sergei Fursenko said.
“None of the Russians was hurt seriously. If anyone is in trouble, we will naturally give help and protection,” he said, noting that the Union was cooperating with the Russian Embassy in Warsaw. “Not a single fan will be denied our support,” he added.
As for the hooligans detained by the Polish police, Fursenko said there were few Russians amongst them. “As far as I know, they behaved well during the march. Polish fans have much bigger problems,” he said.
“Polish fans are known for their disobedience. So such clashes occur,” he said. “We cannot control fans, but we may give some recommendations. In the opinion of certain Polish representatives, the march was a provocation but it was nothing but an event marking the Day of Russia. We will continue to cooperate with Polish authorities. The championship has just begun.”
Fans clashed on Warsaw streets on Tuesday evening, during a march of Russian fans to the stadium. Provocateurs tried to instigate a brawl, but the police rapidly prevented the attempts. More than 100 people were taken into custody. The investigation started. Ten people, including two Russians, were hurt in the clashes.
